Radical Spirit by Joan D. Chittister

photostudio_1510973954028.jpgFormat: Hardcover
Number of Pages: 224
Vendor: Convergent Books
Publication Date: 2017

This book is about the twelve simple rules for healthy spiritual living that derives from the Rule of St. Benedict, a sixth-century book on leading to God-centered life, Sister Joan affirms the need to develop enduring values by shifting our attention to something greater than ourselves. She offers a practical program to help transform our thinking and rebel against our fears, judgments and insecurities.

There is no doubt that the author has a talent for writing, I like it when authors make an effort to make us understand what they want to say especially in the spiritual field, but I can not connectwith the book, it was very difficult to finish it even though I was interested in the subject. Humility is very important in the way of following God and the guidelines are very good.

Remarkable Quotes or paragraphs:

“Knowledge of God and knowlegde of self give birth to humility.”

“God’s will for us is what’s left over when we have done everything we can possibly do to get out of doing what we’re doing rigth now.”

A very brief Review: US by Curtis Wiklund

Us is a book about the artist’s marriage, in this book he draw sketches that reveals the everyday intimate moments that make up a marriage.

I’ve never “read” a book like this, but I realy like it, I love the variations of the style of the drawins. This book is super cute and funny. It makes you feel all the emotions, it is as if this emotions come out of the drawings.

In the “not that positive” part I only have to say I wish it has more description of the pictures.

Booktubathon 2017 Wrap up

Hi, Today I bring you my wrap up for Booktubathon 2017, it was a really good experience the only thing I regret is that I had to do a lot of things in that week I think i could have done it better if it wasnt for that.

I only completed 3 books for a total of 318 pages.

Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops – Jen Campbell, 119 pgs.

Sinopsis (Goodreads):

From ‘Did Beatrix Potter ever write a book about dinosaurs?’ to the hunt for a paperback which could forecast the next year’s weather; and from ‘I’ve forgotten my glasses, please read me the first chapter’ to ‘Excuse me… is this book edible?: here is a book for heroic booksellers and booklovers everywhere.

My Opinion:

An entertaining book of funny things and strange expressions, is fast and easy to read and I get some laughs, I think it would be good to leave a reading slump.

Fables Vol. 1 Bill Willingham, 128 pgs,
21326 (1)

Sinopsis: (Goodreads)

When a savage creature known only as the Adversary conquered the fabled lands of legends and fairy tales, all of the infamous inhabitants of folklore were forced into exile. Disguised among the normal citizens of modern-day New York, these magical characters have created their own peaceful and secret society within an exclusive luxury apartment building called Fabletown. But when Snow White’s party-girl sister, Rose Red, is apparently murdered, it is up to Fabletown’s sheriff, a reformed and pardoned Big Bad Wolf (Bigby Wolf), to determine if the killer is Bluebeard, Rose’s ex-lover and notorious wife killer, or Jack, her current live-in boyfriend and former beanstalk-climber.

My Opinion:

It wasn´t  what I expected, I always liked the stories and I thought I love this, but the plot was loose with a mystery that didn´t make much sense and didn´t see how the detective solved it. It was at least entertaining and has a new way of presenting the characters of fairytales (at least something I had not seen)

Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies (Pottermore Presents #1), 71 pgs. (This wasn’t the book I had in my TBR for that challengue)

Sinopsis (Goodreads)

Pottermore Presents is a collection of J.K. Rowling’s writing from the Pottermore archives: short reads originally featured on with some exclusive new additions. These eBooks, with writing curated by Pottermore, will take you beyond the Harry Potter stories as J.K. Rowling reveals her inspiration, intricate details of characters’ lives and surprises from the wizarding world.

These stories of heroism, hardship and dangerous hobbies profile two of the Harry Potter stories’ most courageous and iconic characters: Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin. J.K. Rowling also gives us a peek behind the closed curtains of Sybill Trelawney’s life, and you’ll encounter the reckless, magical-beast-loving Silvanus Kettleburn along the way.

My Opinion:

I loved to know more about the life of Minerva and Lupine. There are some parts too informative about things that did not interest me so much I think this wasn´t necessary. Thr writting style was good.

82 of 377 pages –The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet Bernie Su and Kate Rorick

Despite I don´t read all and I dont like all I read but despite of that I think it was sucessful, because I could spend more time reading and reconnect with books again.

Review: Boss Bitch by Nicole Lapin

This is a book of empowerment for women, it is a guide on how to own your work and yourself. It is divided into three sections where it explains how to be a leader in each area, in your personal life, at work and in your own company.

I do not usually read business books or self-help books, but I LOVE THIS ONE.

The way it is written is wonderful and makes it not boring, I loved the examples, especially Doris´s, love the way she handle her work.

This book is full of useful advice on important things, and even helped me to come up with some ideas.

When reading it it feels like the author put her personality in the book, and that made it something unique. This book is just what I needed right now.

5 Stars

Big Reading Slump

I am back!

This Too Shall Pass Review

9781101903728 (1).jpg

This book is mainly about the fact that Blanca is forty years old and motherless and how she confronts this.

What I like

  • The setting, I would like to go to a place like this to relax.
  • The good relationship she has with her ex husbands, and how her ex hubands have a good relationship with her other son are that is not his. (Although I dont like one thing with Oscar)
  • I love the cover.
  • I like that she has people to care about her and be with her in bad moment.

We’re never as formidable as when we’re in love and our love is reciprocated.”

What I did not like

  • Blanca in general, I like people who are different but in this case I feel she use that to avoid compromise and to act like an adult, while I was reading I try hard to connect with her, feel her pain, but I couldnt, I didnt even seems she really was really sad for her mother, it seems like this death is a reminder that death is there and put her life in perspective more than the the loss of a loved one. I think She is Frivolous, self-center and immature.
  • Every woman owns her sexuality but I think that is the only thing on her mind besides the death of her mother.
  •  No real character developmen.

It was difficult for me to finish it, because I found it a little tedious

Matched in heaven – Review

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to Angela Page and NetGalley!

Authors: Angela Page and Kim Richards
ISBN: 1629293296

Format: Paperback, 180 pages

Published: October 1st 2015 by Eternal Press

Heaven is so differente than what we tought.

Jake and Mimi who are the “main characters” are dead and riddled with guilt. They play matchmaker for their spouses on Earth with the help Marcel. They arrange Samantha and Syd on Earth.

The premise of the book is so good and I think the author could do more with it. I´ve never read something like this, I really wanted to love it but I couldnt but, it feels incomplete.

I enjoy the fact that people had a chance to redeem themselves doing good things for other people. The total idea is so good but it was the developement what I didnt like, I dont know if its a thing of interest, because I expect more romance, mostly because it talks about matchmaking. I really expect more!
